Switzerland - Book Review,
by Pamela K. Harris

From School Library Journal Gr 3-5-This series entry doesn't add up to much, either in number of pages or information. There are good maps of Switzerland, alone and in relation to the rest of the world, and colorful photographs of its people, foods, sites, and landscapes. Illustrated spreads briefly cover a variety of topics including history, industry, work, and celebrations. Unfortunately, the writing is dry. Pronunciations of difficult words are included in the text; boldfaced words are defined in a glossary at the end. Younger children will glean more information from this title just by reading the captions and looking at the pictures. While Patricia M. Levy's Switzerland (Benchmark, 1994) is for an older audience, its photographs are good and more numerous, and it holds a wealth of solid information.Carolyn Jenks, First Parish Unitarian Church, Portland, MECopyright 2001 Cahners Business Information, Inc.
Book Description Text and plentiful color photos present an informational overview of Switzerland, covering its land, plants and animals, history, schools, language, work, food, recreation, holidays, and other parts of its culture. Also includes national facts, trivia, and related Web sites.
