Soccer, Vol. 1
- Book Review,
by Cynthia Fitterer Klingel

From School Library Journal
Kindergarten-Grade 2-Beginning-reader series titles that offer a few facts about popular sports. In Skating, each spread consists of a page of large-print text facing a full-color photograph that provides some visual clues for new readers. A description of the activity, equipment, and a few safety tips are offered. The skaters wear appropriate safety gear at the indoor park and outdoors. Because little is written on in-line skating for this age group, this book should find an audience. Soccer has an even easier vocabulary. The text consists of 11 declarative statements that mention the uniform and explain the players' actions. Colorful photos depict a boy putting on his shin guards, and action shots of his teammates. There are a number of books written about this sport, but few are presented as easy-readers.Blair Christolon, Prince William Public Library System, Manassas, VA Copyright 2001 Reed Business Information, Inc.
