FROM THE CRITICS
Library Journal
In the midst of the French Algerian conflict, exchange student Gabriella Madison is pulled into a world of hatred, subterfuge, and mystery. At the same time, young Ophelie Duchemin's mother is kidnapped, and Ophelie is taken in by the convent school Gabriella attends. Through a series of rather miraculous events, Gabriella and Ophelie meet, and their bond of friendship is secured by the Huguenot cross that each wears around her neck. Although the plot is predictable and the characters are one-dimensional, first novelist Musser captures the loneliness one feels in a strange land. An interesting though not necessary purchase.
