Updating Ranches: Design Ideas for Renovating, Remodeling and Building New FROM THE PUBLISHER
The ranch can be found everywhere on both coasts and in America's heartland, too. The ranch is simple, functional, and unassuming. But it can look dated. What homeowners are rediscovering about ranches is just how affordable and flexible they can be. This book provides a fresh set of eyes with which to look at the ranches we live in ᄑ and the ones we're thinking of buying (or building). It's rich with ideas and inspiration, featuring over 250 color photos and drawings, and more than 20 examples of updated homes and ranches built from scratch.
FROM THE CRITICS
Library Journal
Readers who think of the ranch home as a dated, featureless style that could appeal only to someone's parents are in for quite a surprise. As most of us learn over time, the folks weren't as na ve as we thought: ranches can offer quality construction; convenient, open floor plans; and easier-than-usual remodeling. Architects Connolly and Wasserman provide an overview of this style and show a number of remodeled and updated examples as well as some newly constructed homes, with numerous "Before and After" floor plans to supplement the text. Styles of windows, lighting, and fireplaces typically found in an original ranch home are covered in rich detail. This title is part of Taunton's excellent "Updating Classic America" series, for which the authors also wrote Bungalows. Many of the ranches here are so attractive that even an architectural snob might be tempted to sit down to a TV dinner in their rec rooms. Recommended for public libraries.
