The Korean War - Book Review,
by Michael V. Uschan

From School Library Journal Gr 6-10-Uschan does a competent job of covering this costly and controversial war. He begins with the start of the Cold War in 1946 and traces the causes, events, and politics that led to the conflict. Frequent quotes from diplomats and other experts who have written about the era give depth and a better understanding to the impact of the Korean War, then and now. The extensive use of other sources provides general readers and students with a solid introduction to the subject. Politics and military and world history are all compiled into a short, readable study. Maps, archival photos, and sidebars aid readers' comprehension of some complex issues. The victory at Inchon and Truman's sacking of MacArthur are among the numerous events analyzed. Fledgling historians should find this title a good, well-documented read.David M.
