About the Author:Deborah Dennard is the author of numerous nonfiction books for young readers, among them Coyote at Pinon Place for Smithsonian's Backyard series; How Wise is an Owl, named a best children's science book by the American Association for the Advancement of Science; and a series of interactive CDs about a character named Daring Deborah. She brings to her writing 15 years of experience as a teacher, writer, and photographer in the education department of the Fort Worth Zoo. She has traveled extensively to observe and photograph wildlife in their natural habitats. A native Texan, she lives in Fort Worth with her husband.
Judy Gitenstein is the editor of Monkeys. She has been a children's book editor for thirty years, having worked at Dell Publishing, Random House, Avon Books, and Bantam Books,where she was Editorial Director. For the past ten years she has been a freelance editor and writer. She began her collaboration with author Deborah Dennard while editing Deborah's titles for the Smithsonian Institution's series of nature books for children. Among the titles she has edited for NorthWord is Schim Schimmel's The Family of Earth.
