In the Himalayas: Journeys through Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan
- Book Review,
by Jeremy Bernstein

From Library Journal
Bernstein, a professor of physics who spends his summers trekking in mountains, has expanded his 1970 travel book, The Wildest Dreams of Kew: A Profile of Nepal (LJ 4/15/70) . The new work is an overview of historical and present-day Nepal, Tibet, and Bhutan that most travelers will find adequate, and it presents a sympathetic, knowledgeable portrait of the people of Nepal. While Bernstein likes the Tibetans and Bhutanese, his personal knowledge is limited to a 1987 trip to Tibet and a 1988 one to Bhutan. The day-to-day accounts of treks in Nepal and Tibet will satisfy the curiosity of those considering adventure tours to these areas. The armchair traveler will regret that the personal adventures make up only about one third of the text.- Paul M. Strain, M.L.S., Rockville, Md.Copyright 1989 Reed Business Information, Inc.
