The Whale-Watcher's Handbook: A Field Guide to the Whales, Dolphins, and Porpoises of North America
- Book Review,
by David K. Bulloch

From School Library Journal
YA-A book that is manageable in both size and focus. Although the brief opening chapter is entitled "About Whales," it is really a general introduction to all three groups of mammals. Each species is described concisely, including its possible variations, range, behavior, and look-alikes. The boxed "Field Marks" enable whale watchers to identify quickly the telltale characteristics of each species. Black-and-white photographs portray the animals engaging in numerous activities. Clear, simplified charts illustrate body and head shapes. Useful appendixes include pertinent organizations, relevant locations, helpful information, and a discussion to inspire novice watchers. An effective introduction.Copyright 1993 Reed Business Information, Inc.

This is a useful book for recreational whale watchers.
