Anarchy FROM THE PUBLISHER
James Robert Baker's novels have always defied easy PUBCOMMENTS. His vision of a darkly comic landscape populated by righteously raging homos exacting gruesomely deserved revenge on right-wing bigots has simultaneously delighted and infuriated literati. In this final work, uncompleted at the time of his death but edited to completion under the supervision of his estate, Baker's vision goes supremely sublime. A logic-defying, hysterical plot, encompassing the exploding breasts of a surgically enhanced TV star, Eva Braun's diet pills, a forged O.J. Simpson murder tape, microwaved heads, a shoot-out in Hitler's underground bunker, a cult of fundamentalist tech heads, an old lady hurling herself off a mountaintop, and a profanity-obsessed Russian mafia hit man, leads all the way over the top when a vision of Catherine Deneuve encourages James to take out the big manᄑGod. As impossible to describe as it is to put down, Anarchy is a potent and brilliant satire of American culture in an era of media overexposure, where what we are told replaces truth and what we see on television becomes our religion.
James Robert Baker is the author of six other novels: Testosterone, Tim & Pete, Boy Wonder, Fuel-Injected Dreams, Adrenaline, and Right-Wing (published on the Internet). Baker was a filmmaker whose underground film Mouse Klub Konfidential, about a Mouseketeer turned gay-bondage filmmaker, is credited with driving Michael Medved away from filmmaking. He died in 1997.
