Gr 2-4-Young readers will enjoy these interesting books on wild cats. All three contain information on the special characteristics of each animal, their social lives, hunting, reproduction, and, most important, their relation to humans. This section mainly serves as a consciousness-raising tool. The series emphasizes how these animals are endangered and reaffirms the importance of preserving them. The books have all the structural elements that elementary students need in writing reports, and are filled with appealing full-color photos that will attract browsers. As a whole, this trio of books is a solid addition for libraries and bookstores.

This book of the "ᄑGatos salvajes!" series introduces readers to the fascinating world of tigers. The introduction captures the attention of readers with an alarming statistic: whereas one hundred years ago more than 100,000 tigers exited in the wild, today that number has dropped dramatically to between four and six thousand. The danger tigers face in their natural habitats is also hammered in to readers' minds in the next section, which discusses the various types of tigers and the diverse regions in which they live. Additional sections provide information about the body of tigers, their social behaviors, amazing hunting skills, mating habits, and birthing practices. Interesting tidbits of information fill the book. For example, readers will find intriguing the mirror-like eyes of a tiger that enable it to see well in the dark and the sandpaper tongue so rough it can tear the skin of prey. Beautiful color photographs adorn each page, and the end of the book offers a glossary, index, and additional sources of information, both print and electronic. Any child seeking information about tigers would relish this book, and all classrooms and libraries would benefit from its presence. 2002, Blackbirch Press, Ages 7 to 10.
