Gr 1-2-Each of these easy-readers offers a scant 15 jokes that are more or less familiar and a little flat: "Patient: `Doctor, doctor, my sister just swallowed my pencil.' Doctor: `Then use a pen.'" Laughs is a little more appealing: "What kind of pet can tell time? A watchdog"; "How does a rabbit feel if it breaks a leg? Unhoppy." Both titles include flat, digitally prepared cartoon illustrations in bold colors. Good joke books are always welcome, but these are insufficient and insubstantial.
