About the Author Richard D. Schoenberg has been a photographer for 25 years. Originally from the New York City area, he worked for several entertainment newspapers. During that period he compiled a portfolio of rock photos. The book titles, "Seventy Nine - Eighty" documents some of the early performances of the B-52's, John Mellencamp and The Pretenders. Having relocated to Los Angeles, he attended the American Film Institute as a cinematography fellow. For six years he pursued a career as a Director of Photography, working on television commercials, music videos and several feature-length films. In 1985, he started a business that services the film and television industry. As the company grew to nine locations around the world Richards ability to concentrate on his photography diminished. In 1998, the company was successfully sold. After the hiatus from photography he returned to shooting. After the publication of 79/80, he had a successful show in Santa Monica, California in January 2003. He is currently developing a second book that is a photographic essay about the Navy SEAL program, which will be published in 2004. In addition to this work he continues to work on a portfolio of Los Angeles street photography.
