About the Author
Mark Colgan, CFP After the death of his beloved late wife Joanne at age 28, Mark Colgan decided to use his own personal experiences with loss, and his in-depth knowledge of personal financial management, to help others cope with the loss of a loved one. The Survivor Assistance Handbook: A Guide for Financial Transition is a compilation of Mark's personal and professional experience plus feedback derived from the one-on-one consulting that he offers to survivors and the hundreds of presentations he delivers to organizations across the country. Today Mark is president of Colgan Capital, an independent financial services practice that specializes in serving the unique financial planning needs of families, widows, widowers and domestic partners. Mark has been a Registered Representative since 1993 and a Certified Financial Planner Professional since 1998. He holds Series 7, 63 and 65 state and federal securities licenses as well as life and health insurance licenses. Prior to forming Colgan Capital, Mark served as vice president of McDonald Investments and was one of the youngest limited partners at Edward Jones & Co. He holds a BS degree in Finance from Rochester Institute of Technology and is a member of the Financial Planning Association. Inspired by the challenges he faced as a young widower, Mark authored The Survivor Assistance Handbook: A Guide for Financial Transition and his website Colgancapital.com continues to offer valuable advice and special services for individuals surviving the loss of a loved one.
