View from the Porch
- Book Review,
by Eve Marx

Jo Maeder, Deejay and Author, Z-100 Radio, New York City
"If Nora Ephron and David Letterman had a lovechild, it would write like Eve Marx."

Book Description
Looking for the perfect year-round read? Go no further: stretch out and relax with the fun and frolic of Eve Marx’s "View from the Porch: Tales from the Anti-Hamptons," a rollicking, goodtime, laugh-out-loud volume of short takes on the über-family circus. Her delicious style of humor will remind readers of the comic wit of Nora Ephron, Dave Barry and Fran Lebowitz. An award-winning columnist with an edge, Ms. Marx captures the carnival of today’s high-powered suburban living in short, breathless takes. She pokes fun at overworked husbands who need naps before bedtime, middle-aged women who yearn to “goddess dance” like they do on Sex in the City, and former gourmets who must knuckle under to the tyranny of their children to appreciate “fine dining” at Mickey D’s. "Even as the fat police and other cholesterol-counting naysayers denounce the place, those golden arches are our Mecca, our inspiration, our nemesis," she writes. Since her community is also a privileged and star-studded one (with the likes of Chevy Chase, Glenn Close, Martha Stewart and Ralph Lauren tooling around incognito), Ms. Marx makes light of what it’s like for an ordinary person to keep up with the celebrity Joneses. It’s not the Hamptons – it’s the anti-Hamptons, where the stars go to live “normal” lives.
