To Please a Chinese Wife - Book Review,
by Edward Frey

Book Description ...This is a cross-cultural romance about an Asian girl who dreads childbirth for fear of bearing only girl babies. A young American fellow, in love with her, dispels her fears and guides her through her quandry. After much family struggle, (and a titillating indiscretion) the story ends happily....The scenes are set in Southeast Asia, from Singapore to Bangkok and on the island of Java. The author takes his readers to many splendid shrines and temples. He devotes some pages to an explanation of the many Hindu gods, to the gentle Buddha, and to the beauty of the Muslim prayer call. The final scenes and denouement occur during the London hurricane of 1987. That terrible storm is the background for a most dramatic ending.
About the Author ...Edward Frey is a former designer of teaching materials. He holds twenty-six U.S. patents, twenty copyrights and likes to compose didactic poetry. His second calling has long been a love of Asian art and culture. He has been writing and lecturing on these subjects for more than twenty years. His last book was published by Oxford University Press.
