Book Description Computers: Systems, Terms and Acronyms is THE technical reference for non-technical people who need to understand Information Technology. The book contains narrative coverage of IT concepts and systems written in plain English for non-technical people. It also contains more than 3,700 definitions of generic technical terms and acronyms, and the most common products used in IT. These definitions include the name and URL of the vendor. This book has been printed annually since 1989. It is now in its 14th Edition and is the companion reference to TechRef, the only online IT database designed specifically for the non-technical professional. TechRef contains more than 14,000 entries and uses the ability of an online system to search for information, build lists of data, and provide new information - 24/7.
About the Author Susan Hodges has an extensive background in Information Technology and has worked as a programmer, analyst, designer, project manager, and systems manager. She spent many years managing a technical training subsidiary of a large company, which gave her the unique opportunity to remain a generalist while most technologists were forced into specialties. Many of the customers she dealt with requested training for non-technical staff who "dont need to do this stuff, they need to be able to talk with the people who do it." In 1989 Ms. Hodges established SemCo Enterprises, Inc. to answer this need. SemCo provides training and tools for non-technical people who work with IT professionals. All of SemCos products are technically correct yet free of jargon a unique combination. Her reputation as an authority on corporate IT continues to grow as she watches the changing field and translates the technology into an understandable format for business men and women via seminars, literature, and speaking engagements.
