About the Author
Jeff Camarda has been an avid fan of fine cigars since his teens. As a stockbroker in early-'80's New York, he began the serious study of this wonderful pastime, with an eye to developing the art of finding truly outstanding cigars at rock-bottom prices - often far below wholesale - a skill he used to build Caribbean Wind, a discount cigar company in Florida. This book - his second - represents the culmination of a lifetime of cigar expertise, keenly informative and thoroughly amusing. Jeff is a Certified Financial Planner, and holds a Ph.D. in finance. Beyond cigars and his family, his other passion is boating, a hobby he has yet to make nearly as cost-effective as his smoking.

From Chapter Seven, on lighting a cigar - You must have a flame burning at precisely 340 degrees Fahrenheit. Any more, and you risk carbonizing the tobacco. Any less, and you get incomplete ignition, and your cigar will knock. Just kidding, of course, but everyone says butane or a quality wooden match only. Or a bit of smoldering firewood, if you have it handy and are in the mood. Paper matches and lighter-fluid, Zippo-type lighters are no-no's, for the same reason: they produce a flame with nasty-tasting residues which will spoil the taste of a cigar. Paper matches have chemicals in them to help them burn, and lighter fuel is kinda like kerosene. Butane burns clean and whatever flavor wood may impart appears not to be objectionable.

WHAT PEOPLE ARE SAYING

This book is just fantastic! I've been in the cigar business a long time, and sold my share of cigar books. This is the only one that pulls it all together. Shows you everything you need to know - including the "insider" stuff you just can't get in the slick magazines. With none of the boring stuff about tobacco fields. And it really made me laugh out loud, all the way through. The book is so good, I just can't keep enough copies in my shop! Only wish I'd had it 20 years ago.-- (Sandy Jones, owner Edward's Pipe & Tobacco)  — Sandy Jones

Dr. Camarda's new book is the perfect complement to the bull market in cigars. No irrational exuberance here. Just hard, lean, value-school advice. Read it! It will take you to new highs of cigar-smoking pleasure. -- (Tim Buchanan, stockbroker)  — Tim Buchanan

Dr. Camarda has hit a home run! This is a humorous, in depth and wonderful perspective on the fine art of enjoying cigars. It has something for everyone, from the novice to the connoisseur. This book is as rich, robust and hearty as the cigars he smokes. It is a "must have" for anyone who is interested in this pastime. My hat is off to Camarda for compiling fantastic reading material for a subject that has eluded truly excellent treatment for far too long. -- (Daniel R. Mills, Exxon Corp.)  — Daniel R. Mills

Even I learned a few things.Could not put it down. You'll see stacks of this one next to the cigars at Tobacco Village. -- (Sandra Pellot, owner Tobacco Village)  — Sandra Pellot
