The Curious Morel: Mushroom Hunters' Recipes, Lore & Advice - Book Review,
by Larry Lonik

The Spore Print You'll like this book! Since I had never heard of it before, mostly out of curiosity, I have read it once and reread most of it, in segments, about three times. I have also ordered additional copies for our special friends. It is very seldom you will find a book as specialized as this in its subject matter that you will thoroughly enjoy! It's humorous, informative and thorough.

From the Author I picked my first morel when I was 6 years old. I have never missed a "season" since. I can spot morels 50 feet away (in fact, I look for the "shape" in the distance). I can tell from ground cover whether I'm too early, too late, or need to get closer to a source of moisture, if I need to move 100 miles north or south for more predictable success that day. I wrote the first book on morels and was the first General Manager at the first facility to grow morels indoors commercially. I'm extremely fortunate to be able to encourage others to enjoy this wonder-filled healthy, outdoor activity, and share the knowledge I've come to acquire. Plus delicious flavors, great people.... Have I told you about the 3 dogs that were trained to find morels....
From the Back Cover The morel is the best-known, most delicious, sought-after and elusive os all wild mushrooms. Milions of enthusiasts annually tramp through the world's forests in pursuit of these most delectable specimens which are hailed at festivals, prized in kitchens and proudly include on gourmet restaurant menus. Naturalist Larry "Tree" Lonik presents the hows, wheres and whens of successful morel hunting, as well as how to prepare (including delicious recipes ranging from the basic to the exotic) and preserve the fruit of Nature's Spring treasure hunt.
