About the Author
Cathy and Mike Duffy began home schooling their three sons, Chris, Josh, and Matt, in 1982. In preparation for home education, Cathy began researching curriculum the year before they began. The two older boys, Chris and Josh, have completed their studies at home and gone on to college, while Matt is studying part time at college as he finishes up his last few classes at home. Because of the needs of her children and the struggles other home educators endured trying to determine what materials to use, she continued researching and began compiling and sharing information. She has written many articles for home education magazines and is the author of the Christian Home Educators' Curriculum Manuals for Elementary Grades and Junior/Senior High. Cathy also shares her expertise as a curriculum consultant to individuals, publishers, and distributors. When she can manage a break from the home education routine and her busy family, she speaks at home education events around the country. Curriculum research led Cathy into the wider realm of education policy. She shares the results of her research into Goals 2000, outcome-based education, and educational vouchers in her book, Government Nannies: the Cradle-To-Grave Agenda of Goals 2000 and Outcome-Based Education. Cathy has also been active in local and statewide home schooling organizations and activities. She served as a board member for Christian Home Educators Association of California and as coordinator and board member of Christian Family Educators of Orange County, California. She has also helped with science and art fairs, organized park days and picnics, organized and taught group classes.
