Cowgirls : Commemorating the Women of the West
- Book Review,
by David R. Stoecklein

Book Description
Dave Stoecklein started photographing cowgirls for his calendars fifteen years ago, always hoping that, one day, he would be able to put together a book. That day finally arrived. In Cowgirls, you will meet some of the most genuine and confident cowgirls of today's American
West. The beautiful women in these photographs are working cowgirls; all of them ride and are devoted to their horses.

Excerpted from Cowgirls by Stoecklein. Copyright © 1999. Reprinted by permission. All rights reserved
Being a cowgirl means you can't be too particular about when you ride. You have to ride as the job demands, be it 100 degrees or 40 below. It also means you have to work twice as hard to prove you can handle the job. On the upside, the cows don't care if you're wearing makeup or if your shoes don't match your purse.

FROM THE CRITICS

Booknews

Photographer Stoecklein presents some of his favorite photos to celebrate the American cowgirl's beauty, skill, and love of horses. Complementing his images are articles that reflect the cowgirl spirit and lifestyle and reveal their thoughts on what it means to be a cowgirl, what they enjoy most about their lifestyle, and what they love about cowboys. The photographs were originally used for Stocklein's calendars; these are real working cowgirls, perfectly groomed for the occasion. Oversize: 12x12. Annotation c.
