German Poetry in Song: An Index of Lieder FROM THE PUBLISHER
This practical book inventories some 9,800 settings of German poetry, primarily for one voice and piano. Under the first line of each poet's work is a list of the composers who have set the poem to music, giving the composer's title for the song, date of composition or publication when available, opus number, and other significant data. Indexes by composer, first line, and title are also included.

Songs by 370 composers, representing 7,450 poems by more than 1,100 poets, are listed. The main section is arranged by poet, under whose name the first line of each poem is listed along with information about its incarnation as song--dates of composition, opus numbers, instrumentation, translators, and the names of cycles or larger works.
