From School Library Journal
PreSchool-Grade 1?Seventy five simple arts-and-crafts projects with clear, concise instructions. In the introduction, the author explains the "whole learning" concept on which the activities are based and gives safety tips for working with young children. The crafts are organized under general headings, such as "Animals and Trees," "Friendship," and "Family Fun." There are creative, unusual ideas ("Sawdust Bugs," "Tooth Fairy Pouch") as well as useful ones ("Picnic Packs," "Tea Party Place Mats"). "Around the World Celebrations" offers ideas from Egypt, Israel, Japan, China, Nigeria, and other countries. Of special interest to teachers and childcare providers is the section called "Big Fun in Special Places," which includes great pre- or post field-trip projects relating to the zoo, circus, museum, library, aquarium, etc. Black-and-white cartoon drawings make the directions even easier to understand. Each activity also features book suggestions, topics for discussion, further educational or artistic activities, or games. Many of the materials used are recycled and can be obtained for free. A helpful list of suggested items to save or scrounge is included. Hurrah to Press for thisCopyright 1996 Reed Business Information, Inc.
