FROM THE CRITICS
Lydia Di Dio Schafer
This is a directory of salient features and contact information for various current health professions educational programs in 52 fields. It is updated annually. The purpose is to provide a comprehensive listing of health professions education programs. This is a worthy objective. The contact information is excellent and will be useful whether readers are undergraduates looking at career options or mentoring practitioners advising current students. Most notably, the data from recent graduates are excellent and unique pieces of valuable information. Information is simple to read, complete, and easily referenced by state and prefession.. My only complaint is the small font size. With the computer and worldwide Web as the informational medium of choice, this book is a cost-effective way to obtain information for those without computer access, whether by choice or by financial or ability restrictions. The strengths are readability and content and the fact that this is a work sanctioned by the AMA. Shortcomings include the fact that this is a book it is difficult to compete with the instant gratification that a computer provides. This book is great to have on hand if/when a server goes down. As a quick reference, this book is well put together, complete, and easy to use.
