by Daniel Doan

Appalachia AMC magazine By all means get . . . Doan's 50 Hikes books, if only for the pleasure of reading them.
Book Description The fourth edition of a classic, newly revised and updated by the legendary author's daughter. Few trail guides have been as praised, as loved, or as dog-eared as 50 More Hikes in New Hampshire. The trails in this collection range from gentle nature walks to rugged peak climbs, from day trips to extended backpacks, from the Massachusetts border to the northern reaches of New Hampshire. Each hike description includes driving directions to the trailhead, a topographical map, and a mile-by-mile account of the route you'll take--its features and its history, both natural and human. But authors Daniel Doan and his daughter Ruth Doan MacDougall also create for you a portrait of each trail that is personal, charming, and filled with gentle humor. They tell you where to go--and why.
About the Author Daniel Doan was "one of the grand old men of the mountains," according to the Green Mountain Club News. He hiked the White Mountains for nearly 70 years, until his death in 1993. His many books include 50 Hikes in the White Mountains. His daughter Ruth Doan MacDougall, who for years helped him keep 50 More Hikes in New Hampshire up-to-date, assumes the book's authorship with this fourth edition. With ten published novels to her credit, MacDougall grew up steeped in her father's twin passions for the woods and the written word.
