Too little rain and too much sun can dry out the fields and prevents plants from growing. Too much rain can destroy a farmer's crops. Knowing when it will rain and when it will be sunny helps farmers decide when to plant. Settler farmers predicted the weather by observing animals, fish, insects, plants and the sky. Much of what the settlers believed is considered true even today. Some farmers still use age-old ways to predict the weather!
