In a well-balanced, stan dardized format, each book discusses the land, history, government, people, and economy of the particular country. The clear, factual text and abundant captioned photographs present a dis tinct portrait of the geographic, social, economic, and political conditions found in these countries. Subheadings within chapters organize the text and focus on specific national characteris tics and concerns: Cote D'Ivoire's mul tilingual education challenge, Kenya's skyrocketing population, and Senegal's drought recovery. Although three maps are duplicated in each book, the corre sponding captions highlight the fea tured country.
