The Impact of Solidarity or Conflict on Participation in a Labor Union - Book Reviews,
by Bang Jee Chun
The Impact of Solidarity or Conflict on Participation in a Labor Union FROM THE CRITICS Booknews
A study incorporating the resource mobilization theory of social
movement, the solidarity hypothesis and the interinstitutional
competition hypothesis in a five percent random sample test of the
Tennessee State Employees' Association. Chun demonstrates that the
solidarity effect varies with individual's religious affiliation and
gender (the liberal church is a context for union solidarity but not
conservative congregations) and extra union organizations constitute
a social context in which people are socialized into organizational
life. The volume is a Ph.D. dissertation, Venderbilt University,
1992, revised with a new preface and index. Includes statistical
tables.
