This two-volume set presents the work of 71 Russian authors and a critical biography of each one, offering a point of departure for new understanding and appreciation of women's work as well as a foundation for further research. The subjects span the centuries between Catherine the Great and the present. Rather than a chronological or numerical arrangement, emblematic titles represent the time periods. In Volume I, the sections are titles: the age of an empress, a hero of our time, what is to be done, I have forgotten the word I wanted to say, and my sisterlife. Volume II: the trial begins, the grass of oblivion, and "she is not concerned over the fate of her children." The index is in Volume II.
