Urban Regional Economics: Concepts, Tools, Applications - Book Reviews,
by Wilbur R. Maki
Urban Regional Economics: Concepts, Tools, Applications SYNOPSIS Maki (applied economics, U. of Minnesota) and Lichty (business and economics, U. of Minnesota) use their own past research to compare and contrast traditional economic theories with more modern theories that take into account the impact of local labor markets; the effects of local monopolies; the influence of local governments; and other geographic topics of markets, central places, exports, and economic bases. They look also at how these are supported by strategically located infrastructure and transfer systems. Beginning with a traditional look at regional delineation, they attempt to establish why the geography of economic activity is preferable to other views. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
