FROM THE CRITICS
School Library Journal
K-Gr 3Those Rhinos Who Surf (Chronicle, 1996) are now on snowboards, taking to the slopes with great daring and abandon and attempting "totally aggro" feats. In case the text is beyond your ken, a glossary of "board speak" at the end of the book will help non-boarders understand. At the end of the day, "Rhinos who snowboard CHILL OUT while loads of PHAT POW DUMP outside. Tomorrow will be EPIC!" Bright, stylized drawings using strange angles and perspectives capture the action of the three friends engaged in their acrobatic endeavors with text curving about the flying figuresartistic almost to the point of confusion. The picture-book format may not appeal to readers actually old enough to be involved in the sport, but it's sure to create some interest in it.Virginia Opocensky, formerly at Lincoln City Libraries, NE
