Reptiles & Amphibians - Book Reviews,
by David S. Kirshner
Reptiles & Amphibians FROM THE CRITICS Children's Literature Part of a series of "My First Pocket Guide" books that feature such topics as garden birds, insects and the weather, this up-close look at reptiles and amphibians is a handy guide and reference book. Each two-page spread features a different animal and includes facts about the animal's physiology, habitat and behavior, along with detailed photographs and drawings. There is an introduction that provides general information about reptiles and amphibians and the differences between the two classes of animals. There is also an index and a glossary to help readers find and interpret the information provided by the text. A series of blank pages for field notes and a 6-inch (15 cm) ruler appear at the end of this truly pocket-sized guide. Despite its small size, there is a lot of information in this book; and it will be a big help to young naturalists as they explore in the wild, satisfy their armchair curiosity or write their reports for school. 2001 (orig. 1996), The National Geographic Society, $7.95 and $3.89. Ages 6 to 10. Reviewer: Judy Katsh
