Primal Scenes of Communication: Communication, Consumerism, and Social Movements

SYNOPSIS

Angus (humanities and sociology, Simon Fraser U.) argues that the materiality of communication media constitutes social relations, and that social relations should be understood as technology-identity complexes. He then uses that theory to characterize consumer society, as well as the social movements criticizing that society, as a unique epoch of communication. Annotation c. Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
