Haunted Mansion: From the Magic Kingdom to the Movies FROM THE CRITICS VOYA - PamCarlson
"When the crypt doors creak and the tombstones quake, spooks come out for a swinging wake." If you have ever traveled in a "doom buggy," it does not take much encouragement to begin singing along with that haunting tune. Having a haunted house as part of the Disneyland experience was Walt Disney's dream from the very beginning, but it took almost twenty years to bring it to lifeso to speak. There were plenty of challenges along the way, including recreating the ride in each Disney park to fit different cultures and locations while maintaining the integrity of the original ideas. In great detail amidst hundreds of photos and drawings, Surrell provides readers with the incarnation of the mansion from plans to ride to theatrical production. Making a movie that would blend favorite moments of the ride with an expanded story line drew upon the talents of old and new "Imagineers," most of whom have loved the ride since they were children. Filled with technical minutia, this work will be most appreciated by those who want to know "how'd they do that?" Included are biographies of haunts accepted as part of the lucky group of 999 ghosts who are portrayed and those rejected as too scary or humorous. It is a treat for browsers caught up in the magic of Disney or anyone who has ever been encouraged by Madame Leota to "hurry ba-ack" before departing into the "Living World."
