FROM THE CRITICS
School Library Journal
PreS-Gr 2 An enjoyable picture book version of the classic story of the good sister and the bad sister, featuring two boars. Amabel's generous nature brings her gifts of food and causes her to care lovingly for a howling baby crocodile. Jealously duplicating Amabel's adventure, Nettie deals perfunctorily with the baby and gets ``spiders and scorpions, rats and bats'' from the crocodile mother. However, Amabel rescues Nettie and guides her down the path of kindness, and they end up as alternate babysitters for the crocodile baby and share all of the fish they get from the grateful mother. In their typical high-spirited style, Aruego and Dewey create an entertaining and colorful world full of movement. They are as skillful at rendering fiendishness as kindness, and even the creatures that will soon be dinner have expressive faces. The text is well constructed and moves along smoothly with the illustrations. Another successful collaboration by a talented picture book team. Marilyn Iarusso, New York Public Lib .
