From the Author
With the release of Photoshop Elements 2, I am sure Adobe has another hit on their hands. For a fraction of the cost of the full version of Photoshop, Photoshop Elements is one of the best software deals around -- and it's only getting better. Adobe improved an already great product with new features and enhancements to old ones. I did the same with Photoshop Elements 2 Solutions: adding entire sections focusing on the new features found in version 2, and refining and improving many of the step-by-step instructions. The CD includes over 100 of the images from the book for practice, as well as a host of useful plug-ins and applications. I'm extremely proud of this book. Once again, I had the privilege to work with the Adobe Photoshop Elements creative team -- and a host of other unpaid, enthusiastic beta users -- to help the product to market. What was particularly rewarding was Adobe's receptiveness to everyone's input. Once again, Tonbo and Command Z, the designer and producer, did a fantastic job laying out the color images and text to make the information readily accessible. Once again, Sybex, the publisher, committed an extremely qualified and dedicated staff to the book. I'd also like to acknowledge and thank the many readers of the first edition, whose valuable comments and suggestions were integrated into this new book. I encourage anyone with questions about the book to contact me.

From the Back Cover
"...covers everything you'll need to know to make your images appear professional, and look the way you prefer-with no redeye, no leaning buildings, and of course, no wrinkles." -Popular Photography "The engaging work of the author and his many talented colleagues will inspire you to bring out the best in your digital images. With Mikkel as your guide, you will also have fun doing so." -Kevin Connor, Group Product Manager, Adobe Take Your Digital Images to the Next Level Adobe's original version of Photoshop Elements quickly became a huge software hit, bringing the power of Photoshop to anyone with a computer. The first version of this book became an instant classic, too, using inspiring images and real-world examples to show readers how to get the most out of the program. With Photoshop Elements 2 Solutions, noted photographer, web producer, and author Mikkel Aaland has thoroughly updated his best-seller to include all the smart new features in the latest version of the program. Whether creating digital images is a hobby or part of your livelihood, this book is an invaluable guide for turning your ordinary images into extraordinary images. Inside, Aaland shows you the ins and outs of both Photoshop Elements 2 and the original Photoshop Elements including: Getting Photoshop Elements up and running Sharpening out-of-focus pictures Touching up faces and fixing red-eye Making standout product shots Enhancing outdoor and real-estate shots Fusing photos into amazing panoramics Combining images into realistic-looking composites Optimizing photos for the web and e-mail transmission Creating PDF slide shows and professional-looking picture packages And more... Featured on the CD The enclosed CD comes with more than 100 practice images from the book, plus utilities to make your work easier, tryout versions of fun and useful plug-ins, and a demo of Sybex's Photoshop 6 Learning Studio software.

FROM OUR EDITORS

The Barnes & Noble Review
Mikkel Aaland is one of the world￯﾿ᄑs leading experts in digital photography, and his books on the subject are treasured by professionals. Now, with Adobe Photoshop Elements 2.0, he￯﾿ᄑs written a superb guide for the rest of us, showing exactly how to make the most out of the images we care about.

Nobody loves their own portrait, but Aaland shows you how to do all the subtle stuff to make your snapshots look great. You￯﾿ᄑll learn how to slightly enlarge eyes (a classic portrait artist￯﾿ᄑs trick), how to bring new life to lips, whiten and fix teeth, and selectively reduce wrinkles -- all without ever being too obvious!

There￯﾿ᄑs a chapter on improving outdoor shots (intensifying skies, working with the midday sun, making your ponds bluer and your grass greener). Want to swap kids in your photocomposite, or create a seamless panoramic image of an entire baseball field? It￯﾿ᄑs here.

If you￯﾿ᄑre a real estate agent (or selling your own house) you￯﾿ᄑll love Aaland￯﾿ᄑs chapter on shooting properties: removing construction signs, judiciously blurring backgrounds, removing unsightly overhead wires, and so forth. (Maybe in the next edition he￯﾿ᄑll show you how to embed the smell of freshly baked bread!) Bill Camarda

Bill Camarda is a consultant, writer, and web/multimedia content developer. His 15 books include Special Edition Using Word 2000 and Upgrading & Fixing Networks For Dummies®, Second Edition.
