This pocket atlas illustrates MR sections with line drawings to designate the plane and location of each section. There are 96 illustrations in all, including all the extremity musculoskeletal system but excluding the skull, spine, and thorax.. This book is provided as a portable reference of musculoskeletal MRIs. Although other atlases certainly are available, the size and portability of this one will be attractive to many individuals. It is intended for use by professionals who perform, interpret, and order musculoskeletal MRIs. The illustrations are of good quality although slightly too few in number. The accuracy of labeling of the structures is excellent. However, there could be greater consistency in labeling the figure orientation; orientation such as anterior/posterior, medial/lateral, etc., is sometimes missing and is incorrect at one point. It would also be useful to have a notation continued on page __ whenever axial planes of one extremity are interrupted to illustrate other planes. It would have been nice to have illustrated only the right extremities for internal consistency. Once these inconsistencies are recognized, they can be compensated for and the atlas is easily used. Unfortunately, some fairly essential structures are not labeled in some of the illustrations (mostly neurovascular structures). Additionally, some structures important in MR imaging have not been included in the cuts or in all their important planes. These include the glenohumeral ligaments of the shoulder, the extrinsic ligaments of the wrist, the collateral and cruciate ligaments in all planes of the knee, the transverse and Wrisberg ligaments, and many ankle ligaments that should be seen in multipleplanes. Hopefully, these deficiencies will be made up in the next edition. This will make this pocket atlas even more valuable. Despite this, practitioners will find this be a useful addition to the lab coat pocket.
