Decolonisation, Independence, and the Politics of Higher Education in West Africa - Book Reviews,
by Katya Leney
Decolonisation, Independence, and the Politics of Higher Education in West Africa SYNOPSIS Beginning life as a doctoral dissertation for the history department of the U. of Cambridge, this study explores the politics of institutions of higher education in Ghana and Senegal. The author argues that the West African universities had drawn heavily on Western models for their foundation, but that African intellectuals subverted any neo-colonial agendas, turning the universities to their own advantage. She further suggests that the universities have played a significant and positive role in nation-building. Annotation ©2003 Book News, Inc., Portland, OR
