What's happening with the Gaskitts? In this third installment, Gus and Gloria have lots of running to do; Mrs. Gaskitt hardly gets out of bed; Mr. Gaskitt is doing the cooking and shopping; and Horace, the cat, turns up missing (as do many other pets). Cheery pictures help propel this easy chapter book along. Text and words combine to create a light mystery filled with comedy, chase scenes, sports, helpful maps, and "honest" thieves. Clues abound in both text and illustrations as mayhem seem to unfold at home, in school, and around town. McEwen's watercolor/crayon illustrations are placed all around the text, adding to the sense of energy and movement. It is hard to put this down; the clever writing, energetic art, and overall design will lead youngsters to read this in one sitting, and then again and again. 2003, Candlewick Press,
