Take along this guide on all of your canoeing adventures. This guide contains information on how to pick a crew, route and trip planning, canoeing and camping gear, how to deal with dangerous bears, canoe hazards and rescue, barren-land travel and much more.

From the Author
EXPEDITION CANOEING is the third edition of my flagship book, CANOEING WILD RIVERS, which has been popular since 1984. More than half the material, and all the expedition accounts, photos and illustrations are new. The huge appendix is larger than some canoeing books! Readers of earlier editions of CANOEING WILD RIVERS will hardly recognize this updated, expanded new edition. EXPEDITION CANOEING is not just the work of Cliff Jacobson. Kent Ford, Gary and Joan McGuffin, Bob O'Hara, Michael Peake, Annie Aggens, Laurie Gullion, Alex Hall, Verlen Kruger, Bob Dannert and dozens of other internationally known paddlers have made their mark on these pages. There are hundreds of new ideas, plus a new chapter in which acknowledged experts share advice. This is not a book about canoeing technique. It is an encyclopedia of nuts and bolts and an essential reference for those who canoe wilderness waterways. When the first edition of CANOEING WILD RIVERS appeared in 1984, Alaska Outdoors Magazine said it was "The first book you should buy!" The Minnesota Canoe Asssociation called it "The bible of far north canoeing". This new 2000 color edition of EXPEDITION CANOEING goes light years beyond previous editions to address every question about wilderness canoeing. And like earlier editions, you won't have to head to the Arctic to get more than your money's worth. If you love canoeing remote waterways you will love EXPEDITION CANOEING as much as I loved writing it.
