Hong Kong
- Book Review,
by Falaq Kagda

From School Library Journal
Grade 5-8AThis series title includes chapters on Hong Kong's geography, history, government, economy, people, religions, language, arts and leisure, and festivals and food. Clearly written and interesting as well as informative, the up-to-date text includes material on what the reversion to Chinese control will mean to the region. Sidebars expand upon various topics; but problems such as crime, overcrowding, and pollution receive little attention. The inviting layout has abundant white space and a good-quality full-color photograph on each page; the pictures are relevant, well composed, and attractive. A fine map, a "Quick Notes" reference page, a nicely done glossary, and a very short bibliography are appended. An appealing resource for reports and one that may lure browsers as well.ADiane S. FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Sheree Van Vreede

Hong Kong is an immensely populated territory that has undergone enormous changes in its physical and social elements as well as its political status, as we have recently seen. This mesh of history, people, and culture is detailed with a mixture of text and photographs. A great reference tool for writing reports for school or for fun. Part of the "Cultures of the World" series.
