         Editorial Review

Apes
- Book Review,
by Casey Horton

From School Library Journal
Gr 3-6-A useful, but somewhat dry, source for reports. Several species of great and lesser apes are discussed, providing facts on physical traits, behavior, and why their existence is threatened. Maps showing locations of habitats and generally good-quality full-color photographs provide both information and appeal. A list of conservation organizations is appended. Eric S. Grace's Apes (Sierra Club, 1995), a handsome book with a well-written, more animated text, offers a brief history of work done by several important animal behaviorists in the area of primate study, such as Dian Fossey, Birute Galdikas, and, of course, Jane Goodall. This, in addition to more detailed information, makes Grace's book a better choice.-Cynthia M. Sturgis, Ledding Library, Milwaukee, ORCopyright 1996 Cahners Business Information, Inc.
