K-Gr 3-Attractive, informative photographs are paired with a variety of facts in these introductions. Each book begins with an image of its respective continent from space and a paragraph listing the seven continents. Africa includes descriptions of the deserts, rain forests, mountains, islands, and cities and towns as well as some of the people and animals that live there. Antarctica offers facts about that continent's unusual terrain and climate as well as the animals and people who live on or near it. In both books, the large-type text offers simple statements such as "Africa is home to many people" and "Antarctica has very few plants" while smaller-print paragraphs provide more detail. Occasionally, the information is so brief that readers may be left with questions. The absence of an index, glossary, or table of contents may add to this confusion. Each book concludes with a map indicating the locations mentioned.
