Fandex Family Field Guides: New York City FROM THE PUBLISHER
Introducing a brand new Fandex® idea: the travel guide, perfect for families planning a trip and a great souvenir or gift to bring back home. A natural marriage of format and subject, each guide combines unique, individually die-cut cards with full-color photographs and illustrations and a lively, fact-filled text.
Launching the travel guides is New York City, one of the most visited, family-friendly destinations in the U.S. New York City covers the highlights--museums, neighborhoods, parks, famous buildings--and those unexpected, distinctly New York institutions like taxis, delis, even the coffee shop known to millions of Seinfeld fans. There's the Brooklyn Bridge, and the story of P. T. Barnum leading a parade of 21 elephants across its span to prove the structure was safe. The Statue of Liberty, Chinatown, Times Square, the Bronx Zoo, the UN (not technically in New York, or even America, but an international zone owned by all UN member countries).
FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature - Joan Kindig, Ph.D.
Anyone planning a trip to New York City would do well to pick up a copy of this playfully designed guidebook. Meant to hit the top sightseeing attractions in New York City, this guidebook is presented in full color, has a trim size, and the pages are connected by a grommet. The grommet allows the pages to fan out and present a cornucopia of NYC delights for the first time visitor. A number of the pages are die-cut in the shape of the building or attraction, which will entice any child to participate in planning a family trip. The attractions are listed in alphabetical order and each page offers the address and cross streets so you can find your way easily as well as some interesting information about the place. For example, in addition to the address of the Empire State Building, numerous facts about when it was built and how many bricks it took to build it are included. Children will be enthralled by this kid-friendly introduction to tourism. While this guidebook is perfect for the child in all of us, a companion guidebook is in order. This guidebook does not offer information about convenient subway stops nor does it offer the daily schedule or costs of the attractions. Whet their appetites with the Fandex guide to New York City and also buy a basic guidebook so that you don't miss a single one of these fabulous attractions. 2004, Workman Publishing, Ages all.
