Daw 30th Anniversary Fantasy Anthology FROM OUR EDITORS
The Barnes & Noble Review
In celebration of DAW's three decades in the publishing industry, editors Elizabeth R. Wollheim and Sheila E. Gilbert asked every author ever published by DAW if they would like to contribute a new story for a special 30th anniversary anthology. The response was so overwhelming that the editors decided to compile two collections -- one for fantasy and the other for science fiction.
The 18 stories included in this magic-filled anthology are by some of the most distinguished writers in fantasy: Andre Norton, Tanith Lee, Christopher Stasheff, Tanya Huff, Mercedes Lackey, and Melanie Rawn, to name but a few.
Jennifer Roberson's story "Ending and Beginning" introduces readers to the world of her new fantasy series. In a dangerous realm where many people are nomadic traders, travelling through a war zone is just another obstacle to overcome. After several people in Ilona's caravan (including her lover) are ruthlessly murdered by foreign invaders, she fatefully meets a man who is looking for employment as a guide. But when Ilona sees him rise after thieves have killed him, she realizes she is in the presence of legendary magic.
Also included are a new Nightfall story by Mickey Zucker Reichert, a Sun Sword novella by Michelle West, and a hilarious autobiographical tale by Lackey.
This fantasy anthology -- along with its science fiction companion -- is not only a touching tribute to Donald A. Wollheim, the founder of DAW (the first book company exclusively devoted to science fiction and fantasy) but also one of the best collections of fantasy stories to be released in years.
