Restructuring Regional and Local Economies: Towards a Comparative Study of Scotland and Upper Silesia

The sectoral problems of the industrial monoculture that characterized the West of Scotland in previous years became a regional problem. This process is seen by Blazyca (economics and European studies, U. of Paisley, UK) as being analogous to the situation currently existing in post-communist Upper Silesia in Poland. He presents 14 papers on economic and policy issues for both regions, discussing such topics as regional restructuring, social aspects of restructuring, the mythology of "partnership," and the role of foreign direct investment.
