Such a multi-dimensional, institution-sensitive approach is manifested throughout the 11 chapters, which cover issues ranging from reforms of the state-owned enterprises and banking system, to capital flows and productivity progress, regional growth, health care reforms, Internet regulation, and the compelling task of agriculture-restructuring.
SYNOPSIS
The editors (economists from the United States and China) present 12 papers that were primarily drawn from the July 2000 conference, Developing Through Globalization: China's Opportunities and Challenges in the New Century. The papers examine recent policy changes and developments in aspects of the Chinese economy, often taking a comparative approach. Issues of domestic banking, telecommunications regulation, capital inflow, and agriculture are explored, primarily in reference to changes heralded by China's accession into the World Trade Organization.
