Islands of Rainforest: Agroforestry, Logging and Eco-Tourism in Solomon Islands

This ethnographically based study examines rainforest practices and conflicting land uses in Solomon Islands from the indigenous standpoint. Agroforestry, logging, conservation, and eco-tourism are viewed in historical context, from pre-colonial production systems through colonial developments to modern encounters with Asian logging companies. Informants of the study include chiefs and big-men, ordinary forest users, Solomon Islands politicians, New Zealand conservationists, UNESCO bureaucrats, and American tourists. Includes b&w photos.
