Toucans FROM THE CRITICS
Children's Literature - Susan Hepler
This entry in the "Animals of the Rainforest" series includes a one-page quick look at toucans, information about how they survive in the South American rainforests, a map where these birds are located, chapters about lifecycle and a typical day, charts, and sidebars of interesting facts. There are some four types of this large-beaked bird and text explains more about how the omnivorous birds use their huge beaks. A short chapter is devoted to what the animal eats, and the animals that prey on their eggs (and occasionally on them). Research is further supported by a glossary, full-colored photographs but with modest mostly descriptive rather than information-bearing captions, an index, a few internet sites, but no other children's book titles, and a useful address to which to write. 2001, Steck-Vaughn,
