Tigers and Their Cubs

FROM THE CRITICS

Children's Literature - Meredith Kiger, Ph.D.

One in the "Pebbles Plus" series about mammals and their offspring, this picture book features large single page color photographs sure to capture a youngster's attention. Some photos have been enlarged to such a degree that they seem out of focus. Their depiction of tiger cubs and their families progressively follows the cubs from infancy to young adulthood in their natural habitat. The minimalist text and large print are ideal for emergent readers. It is unfortunate that the location in the world of tiger habitat is not mentioned in the text. Very young children might assume it is in their environment. A pictorial timeline of growth as well as an index, glossary and resources complete the book. 2004, Capstone Press, Ages 4 to 7.
