Each page of text is accompanied by a full-page color photo on the opposing page. Some chapters include information about properties of minerals and how hardness of minerals is measured on the Mohs scale. Crystals, gemstones, diamonds and their properties are revealed, and readers will be amazed to discover the minerals that lie within their own bodies. Endnotes include a very useful glossary which aids understanding of some difficult vocabulary. Valuable information about where to find more information and books about minerals is included. Internet sites where readers may find more information on their own are included. A clever "hands-on" activity invites readers to enjoy experimenting with salt thaw.
